Why black and white dominates over anything.... Working in the darkroom to create your own masterpiece is probably one of the most rewarding things you will ever do, that is if you get the chance to work in one. I started in the dark room at my high school. i went from developing my own 35 mm film(standard film camera) then getting to develope 120mm(medium format camera) film and then large format film(large format camera) all diffrent but so cool. then i got to print my own work using an easel and light. THats it all you use to make a picture light, oh the wonders of light. then i got to throw them into diffrent chemicals and expiriment with the diffrent types of methods to change the pictures by using filters to change contrast or using diffrent types of paper or diffrent sizes of paper. working with my hands to create a masterpiece makes me feel as if im in complete control of what the out come will be and i can choose to manipulate that outcome in any way that i please. From working with hand coloring a picture to making use of diffrent techniques that were used before photoshop to manipulate/crop/contrast/everything to a picture. also getting to work with an oatmeal box pinhole camera is really cool the way you get distorted pictures and such so if you ever get to work in a darkroom take full advantage. Digital photography should not kill all the fun for those who like to go oldschool. But also working in a drkroom to me is more of a talent than just shooting digital(dont get me wrong digital is nice) but if you can get near the same outcome by just using your hands rather than pointing and clicking a mouse i get the feeling of it being that much more rewarding.
